Review: Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, Dubai

From the moment its sail-like silhouette first graced Dubai’s skyline, the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab has epitomised opulence, blending artistic design with an uncompromising commitment to grandeur.

Standing tall on its own man-made island, Dubai's most iconic landmark, the Burj Al Arab (which translates to ‘the tower of Arabs’) is a stunning testament to architectural ambition and creative excellence. Rising 321 metres into the skyline, its sail-inspired design pays homage to the traditional Arabian dhow while standing as a beacon of modernity.

  • With so many beach resorts out there, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by endless listings and glowing descriptions. At Love of Beaches, we take a more considered approach. These reviews aren’t exhaustive; they’re curated.

Each property featured on here is one we’ve either experienced first-hand or comes highly recommended through consistent, honest feedback from trusted clients, well-travelled friends, and family. These are the places we genuinely rate, recommend and return to.

You won’t find long-winded overviews or vague marketing copy. Instead, you’ll get clear, editorial-style insights that cut through the noise, covering only what truly matters: location, service, comfort, and of course, beach quality.

All properties are 4- or 5-star, and all are based on or near a beautiful beach.

Whether you're planning a luxurious escape or a peaceful retreat, consider this your streamlined, expert-backed guide to finding your perfect beach stay.

Situated 280 metres from the mainland and overlooking the Arabian Gulf, the hotel offers a sense of exclusivity and grandeur. Guests are invited to make an entrance worthy of the surroundings, with the option to arrive by helicopter, taking in breathtaking aerial views of Dubai, or in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce from the hotel’s fleet, an arrival that instantly sets the tone for an extraordinary stay.

Inside is a symphony of indulgence. Lavish interiors gleam with gold accents, intricate Arabian motifs, and cascading water features, creating an environment that is both regal and contemporary. The suites, each spread over two levels, redefine luxury with stunning views, personal butler service, and amenities that cater to even the most discerning traveller. Staying at the Jumeirah Burj Al Arab is not just accommodation—it is an immersion into a world of exceptional hospitality and unforgettable experiences.

Fun Fact: Before the Burj Al Arab became one of the world’s most photographed hotels, it began life… on a napkin. In 1993, British architect Tom Wright, struck by the image of a graceful dhow sailing past the old Chicago Beach Hotel site, quickly sketched what would become one of the most recognisable hotel silhouettes in modern architecture. That impromptu doodle (resembling a sail catching the Gulf breeze) perfectly captured Dubai’s bold vision to create a symbol of luxury that would rival the Eiffel Tower and Sydney Opera House.

This is more than a hotel; it is an enduring symbol of innovation, magnificence, and unmatched luxury.

Whether it’s arranging a private dining experience, curating bespoke excursions, or simply anticipating needs before they arise, the service is consistently exceptional, making every stay nothing short of remarkable.

As befitting a world-renowned property, the Burj Al Arab offers an unparalleled culinary journey through its collection of exclusive fine-dining restaurants, and Michelin-starred chefs. Each venue is a masterpiece, showcasing a diverse array of global cuisines, from the vibrant flavours of the Mediterranean to the rich and aromatic traditions of the Middle East, and an array of gourmet experiences in between.

The selection is impressively curated to cater to discerning palates, though not to all budgets, these are dining destinations firmly positioned in the upper echelons of luxury. However, the cost is justified by the extraordinary quality and artistry that define every dish. Ingredients are meticulously sourced, techniques are cutting-edge, and presentations are works of edible art. Whether it’s a special occasion or an indulgent one-off experience, dining at the Burj Al Arab transcends the ordinary. The impeccable service, stunning settings, and exquisite culinary creations elevate each meal into a moment of distinction that lingers in memory long after the final course.

For those seeking to bask in the Arabian sunshine, the Burj Al Arab Terrace stretches an impressive 100 metres out into the sea, home to SAL, arguably Dubai’s most elegant beach club with Mediterranean restaurant. This exclusive space is reserved solely for hotel guests and Burj Al Arab members.

Whether you prefer the family-friendly freshwater pool, ideal for relaxing and socialising, or the saltwater infinity pool (an adults-only haven hovering above the sea) you’ll be spoiled for choice. Add to that four ocean-facing Jacuzzis, flawless service, and panoramic views of the glittering Arabian Gulf, and you have a beachfront experience that feels more like a private island retreat than city beach escape.

The wellness offerings at the Burj Al Arab are equally impressive, beginning with a state-of-the-art gym designed to meet the standards of professional athletes. Guests can engage in tailored fitness programs, book personal training sessions, or find their inner calm with yoga classes.

The jewel in the crown is the in-house spa, perched 150m above the Arabian Gulf on the 18th floor, Talise is a sanctuary of indulgence that marries ancient wellness traditions with modern luxury from its 16 treatment rooms. Featuring premium products, this haven provides transformative treatments that revive and restore the mind, body and soul. Editor’s

Note

I am often asked what it’s like to stay in the world’s most famous hotel, and I say it’s a blend of privilege, awe, and let’s be honest, a touch of anxiety about whether another cocktail might mean remortgaging the house!

When describing the aesthetics of a hotel like this, words like “exquisite” and “extraordinary” are rarely used with absolute conviction. Yet with the Burj Al Arab, these adjectives don’t just feel appropriate, they almost fall short. It truly lives up to the hype.

I recommend staying at the Burj Al Arab at least once in your lifetime, even if only for a single night. Should your budget not stretch that far, consider booking the renowned afternoon tea or dining at one of its exceptional restaurants. The architecture alone is breathtaking, expect a bold, visionary design that still manages to astonish, no matter how many times you've seen it. To experience the Burj, even briefly, is to step into a dreamscape. This is no ordinary hotel; it is a theatrical masterpiece of hospitality, a modern Arabian wonderland.

Would the Burj Al Arab be my go-to for a Dubai escape if money were no object? Quite possibly. It remains, without question, the pinnacle of luxury in the region: an extravagant showcase of glamour where each visit reveals a fresh delight. There is something about the setting that fuels the imagination; I always leave feeling creatively recharged, wide-eyed, and quietly exhilarated.

That said, where I stay in Dubai always depends on the type of stay I’m seeking. If I’m in the mood for high-octane luxury and an atmosphere that inspires (a place where the champagne sparkles as brightly as the chandeliers) then I’m here with bells on. However, if I’m looking for a more relaxed, barefoot-by-the-beach escape, where no one bats an eyelid at my linen creases, unbrushed hair and sandy toes, then perhaps I’d stay elsewhere. With opulence comes a certain dress code, and this is not a place where one arrives underdressed. It is, unapologetically, a setting for those who relish a touch of theatre in their travel.

Please note: You cannot simply turn up at Jumeirah Burj Al Arab for a casual look around. Access is strictly reserved for hotel guests or those with confirmed reservations at one of the restaurants, bars, clubs or the spa. If I had a pound for every time I’d heard someone lament that they were turned away at the gate, I might just have enough to fund another night’s stay myself.

Happy Travelling, Amanda
