Review: The Oberoi, Mauritius
An opulent five-star resort designed with the discerning traveller in mind.
Guests are invited to immerse themselves in a sanctuary of tranquillity, where indulgent amenities, gourmet dining, and bespoke experiences await.
Those acquainted with the Oberoi brand of luxury hotels and hospitality, will have a good idea of what to expect when staying in one of their properties. The Oberoi Mauritius (often considered as the best hotel in Mauritius) does not disappoint, maintaining the brand’s dedication to luxury, design and outstanding service. Boosting a fantastic location on the island’s west coast, on a sandy beach of Turtle Bay, this is the perfect position for taking in spectacular sunsets that illuminate the sky with pink and deep orange hues.

The accommodation at The Oberoi Mauritius exudes timeless elegance, seamlessly blending classic design with the charm of traditional thatched roofs.
Each villa and pavilion has been thoughtfully designed to serve as a serene retreat, featuring tasteful décor that harmonises natural textures with luxurious finishes, including a four-poster bed . The interiors are a celebration of understated sophistication, offering a calming atmosphere that perfectly complements the island’s tranquil surroundings. One of the standout features is the opulent bathroom, a true place for relaxation. Highlighted by either a roll top or sunken marble bath, which invites guests to indulge in moments of pure calmness. Every detail, from the ambient lighting to the premium amenities, has been carefully curated to enhance comfort and create an unforgettable stay.
With a fantastic choice of restaurants serving authentic Creole and international cuisines guaranteed to set your tastebuds alight, dining at The Oberoi is both an unforgettable and extremely enjoyable experience.
At The Restaurant, you can indulge in a hearty breakfast and a delightful dinner, all while surrounded by the charm of nature. The rustic eatery offers a serene ambience, and you’ll often find yourself accompanied by the lively chirping of small but vocal birds perched just beyond the terrace, a unique and endearing touch to the dining experience. Whereas, On The Rocks serves a more relaxed lunch and dinner to the sound of the waves.
The Gunpowder Room (dating back to 18th century French colonial Mauritius) is highly recommended for both its unique setting and sensational cuisine
Every Saturday and Sunday evening, The Herb Trail invites guests to experience a unique communal dining event in an enchanting al fresco setting. Nestled within the resort’s fragrant herb garden, this atmospheric space features an underground fire pit and traditional smokehouse, where slow-cooked delicacies are prepared with care and flair. It's a celebration of flavour, fire, and friendship – perfect for those who enjoy exceptional cuisine served with a generous side of storytelling and starlight.
Presenting a seemingly endless array of prestigious facilities and a programme of daily cultural and mindfulness activities, guests are treated to a range of water activities ranging from glass bottom boat rides, Hobie Cat sailing, sea kayaking, water skiing, wind surfing, pedalos and snorkelling trips to the Turtle Bay marine park.
The Oberoi Mauritius boasts two immaculately maintained, floodlit tennis courts for guests to enjoy a match at their leisure – day or evening. Whether you're a seasoned player or a curious beginner, private coaching or lessons with a professional tennis coach can be easily arranged, ensuring your game stays sharp while you soak up paradise.
There is also a welcoming spa, where African inspired and signature Oberoi massage therapies are available alongside sensory experiences.
The Kids’ Club offers complimentary, supervised fun for children aged 4 to 12 years old. Open daily from 9am to 4pm, this engaging space provides a safe and imaginative environment where little ones can explore, create and play. From arts and crafts to outdoor adventures and local cultural activities, the club ensures every day is a new adventure – allowing parents to unwind knowing their children are in expert hands and thoroughly entertained.
Editor’s
Note
I always aim to approach a hotel stay without any preconceived ideas, but that’s easier said than done when it’s one of the world’s most renowned (multi-award winning) hotels.
The Oberoi, Mauritius, certainly lives up to its reputation for impeccable service, I stayed here for my birthday and was made to feel truly special, with thoughtful touches like a personalised birthday cake, card from the team, and plenty of celebratory flair.
The whole experience was luxurious and felt super-chilled. I’d say the Oberoi caters more to those craving quiet sophistication than to anyone looking for a lively atmosphere, because in my experience it’s somewhat missing any energy or vibe. That said, if calm, understated elegance is what you’re after, The Oberoi delivers it beautifully.
